Academic Director
OBJECTIVE
To recommend to the Board new opportunities to address the future direction and membership of AFE, through the academic stream of Facilities Engineering.
To liaise with the various schools and colleges around the Country (and the world) to ensure the highest possible academic interests are pursued by AFE, and that such information available to AFE is shared with the broader academic community.
To ensure that AFE has the products and services appropriate to attract student members, and maintain those members as Young Professional Members, through to Full members.
And to ensure scholarship development to the fullest possible extent available to AFE.
COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Academic Director also holds Board responsibility for representation of certain committees as determined by the Board of Directors. It is not necessary that the Academic Director Chair every committee/meeting, but shall facilitate the smooth operation and management of the committees and report the findings and recommendations of such meetings and committees to the Board of Directors at their regular monthly meetings.
- Student members and YPM (in conjunction with the Membership Committee)
- Student Chapters
- Scholarships (in conjunction with AFE Foundation)
- Academic Development (in conjunction with PD Committee)
TASKS
- Serves as a liaison with universities and colleges that have facilities engineering/management programs on behalf of AFE.
- Represents AFE to academia through faculty and student bodies at facilities program.
- Serves as a leader (point person) to provide insights to AFE on issues relating to the education and development of membership as a whole.
- Participates actively in Board meetings (face to face and Teleconference) and the governance of the Association through formulation, review and execution oversight of the business decisions guiding the overall direction of AFE.
- Researches and maintains currency on industry teaching and learning trends, reporting them to the Board with recommendations for policy in areas of benefit to/from AFE.
GOALS 2011
- Contact/Meet (physically or virtually) with all colleges holding a Facilities Engineering/Management and/or related curriculum annually
- Grow student chapters by 2 annually (in conjunction with RVP)
- Expand YPM by 200 members (in conjunction with Membership Committee)
- Manage the scholarship program for AFE, to increase giving (to and from the Association and Foundation) by 10% annually
