Policy on Campaigning
The only channel for presenting information by a candidate is through the candidate statement and other forums pre-approved by the nominating committee.
The AFE Head Office will forward on behalf of all candidates:
- A standardized biography of the candidate supplied by the candidate (design approved by the Nominations committee). When ballots are sent out to those eligible to vote in that election
- A standard one page (500 words – formatted to fit on one letter sized page), promotional sheet, supplied by the candidate, one time only, either by Fax or email (candidates choice) to all those eligible to vote, at the time of the candidates choosing
Use of any AFE electronic resources (e.g., listserves, e-blasts, etc.) by individuals to promote individual nominees or candidates is considered to be inappropriate.
The purpose of the campaign policy is to avoid inundating members with broadcast campaigning. Messages to personal contacts via email, telephone, or in a face-to-face meetings notifying them that a candidate is running for office are acceptable, but messages via larger AFE distribution lists or groups are not. Short statements in speeches, presentations or newsletters notifying members that a candidate is running for office are acceptable, but messages that discuss platforms or that strongly encourage members to vote for specific candidates are not permitted
