AFE Certification Programs Approved for GI Bill Reimbursement
HERNDON, VA October 22, 2010 The Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) announced today that AFE Certification Programs have been approved for GI Bill Reimbursement. Eligible veterans and dependents may now get reimbursed for the cost of taking exams to receive AFE certification, the most recognized program for facilities engineering, maintenance and operations professionals.
Acting as the State Approving Agency, the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (www.dvs.virginia.gov) has approved all three AFE Certification programs—the Certified Plant Maintenance Manager (CPMM), Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) and Certified Plant Supervisor (CPS)—for reimbursement. Any applicant who is a veteran or eligible person is entitled to use GI Bill benefits to apply for reimbursement for the cost of the AFE Certification application and exam.
"This is an exciting opportunity for AFE and for our veterans," said Larry Ross, Chair of the AFE Professional Development Committee. "We are pleased to be able to offer professional advancement and recognition to those who have served our country so well; facilities engineering is a career path with excellent growth potential."
Coverage under GI Bill benefits was recently expanded to include licensure and certification exams as well as traditional educational programs. Programs must be approved by the US Veterans Administration.
"AFE is honored to have our certification programs recognized in this way," said Wayne Carley, AFE Director of Professional Development. "It speaks highly of our member volunteers — all of whom have years of real world expertise in their specialties--who develop and oversee the programs and teach the AFE Certification Review Courses."
