Through the strength and support of our membership, AFE has become a leading professional organization in the Facilities Engineering field. We maintain that position by interacting and sharing resources with a number of allied organizations on a daily basis.
With 10 core competencies in Facilities Engineering that cross the main streams of Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, etc., the strong industry allies with whom we work help us develop standards and competencies that ensure AFE is not only at the forefront of our field, but is playing its part in allied areas and direct engineering disciplines.

ENERGY STAR
AFE is a proud ENERGY STAR Partner. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.
- Global FM
Global FM is a worldwide federation of member-centered organizations committed to providing leadership in the facility management profession. As a single, united entity promoting facility management, Global FM is a conduit for furthering the knowledge and understanding of facility management, sharing of best practices and resulting in added value to the individual members of each member organization.
The Green Building Initiative (GBI)
The GBI works with design and building practitioners to facilitate understanding and acceptance of sensible green building practices. Specifically, our mandate is to accelerate the adoption of green building practices among mainstream design and construction professionals by providing practical and credible tools, such as Green Globes™ New Construction and Continual Improvement for Existing Buildings, as well as education and marketing resources for the residential and commercial building sectors.
- International Facilities Management Association
For many years AFE have treasured the strong relationship with our industry partner, IFMA. Over the years we have shared programs and conferences, and developed resources and opportunities together. This relationship remains today such that the whole of the Facilities profession benefits for the strong sharing of ideals. AFE members gain a $50 discount on IFMA membership (and vice versa).
- Minnesota Educational Facilities Management Professionals
MASMS is a Professional Organization Committed to Promoting Excellence in the Operation and Care of Educational Facilities. MASMS also share the AFE certification with its members.
