Mark McKinley is the Facilities Engineering Manager for the Howard Hughes Medical Institution’s (HHMI) Janelia Research Campus (Janelia); responsible for asset lifecycle management, building information modeling (BIM) implementation, electronic document management, computerized maintenance management, facility engineering, building automation and controls.

Champion of BIM for Facility Management. I see BIM as a robust platform for solving operational changes and improving operational awareness, safety, efficiency, and provide analytical capabilities.

HHMI one of the USA’s largest private funder of biomedical research. Janelia is a 1.1 million SF, 689-acre pioneering research campus in Ashburn, Virginia; where scientists pursue fundamental neuroscience and imaging.  The Landscape Building is the main research building covering 600,000 SF and contains 260 laboratories, plus offices, conference facilities, and food service.  The campus also includes residential and support buildings.

His career spans over 30 years including Mechanical Discipline Leader & High Performance Building Team Leader for AECOM; Commissioning Project Manager for Sebesta Blomberg; and multiple positions in design, construction, and facilities management. Responsible for implemented and expanded Revit model functionality and adaptation. Additional professional experience in data management, migration, and quality control; including database interconnections and interaction.

Holds MBA from George Mason University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University.
